Days of Quarantine
On March 15, 2020, I entered my studio as the official quarantine began. I declared my intention on instagram to create and post a new piece of art everyday during the shut down. Each day, I wrote a response to what was happening in the world around us. On Day One I wrote, “Even though I started this series before the outbreak, it seems more meaningful during this crazy time!” People started responding that my “figures” were not socially distanced. Our perceptions were already changing and our ideas about being close together were suddenly tainted with fear.
When I began, I could not have imagined that over 400 days would pass. This immersive exhibit is allows the viewer to walk through this period of time, like walking though a memory. Each Day represents how I felt personally, while also echoing the how the world was experiencing a worldwide pandemic. With the constant flow of emotions, from anxiety and fear to hopefulness and gratitude, the series became a visual record to mark this unique time.
