Voices & Visions; Standing on the Bridge Between Health & Disease
Voices & Visions; Standing on the Bridge Between Health & Disease

Voices & Visions; Standing on the Bridge Between Health and Disease is a biennial art exhibition expressing the concerns around cancer, with an emphasis on breast and ovarian cancers.  The exhibit is curated by me, Caren Helene Rudman, with The Art Center Highland Park.

One of worst parts of having cancer and/or caring for a loved one who has cancer is the feeling of powerlessness.  Art can be both healing and empowering.  It sends messages out into the world that reveal the strength needed to make a difference and to build both awareness and community so that we do not have to continue to accept the status quo.  We need to find cures and we need to treat every patient as an individual and not a statistic.  This exhibit allows us to reveal the many levels of meaning around cancer with an emphasis on breast and ovarian cancers.

In this gallery, you can see highlights of each of the past 4 exhibits.  Each year, I ask a different question which include,

1, How do we detach from our bodies as we head into surgery?

2. How do we find strength in pain when facing cancer in your life?

3. How has cancer or the threat of cancer affected your life?

4. How is cancer a metaphor?
